Michael LeFevre

Awarded: October 2025

It is with great pride and appreciation that we formally acknowledge Michael LeFevre as our third Life Membership recipient tonight. Over the past decade, our club’s presence throughout northern Tasmania has grown substantially, and Michael has been a pivotal driving force behind this progress.

Michael’s sporting journey began as a skilled athlete, participating in both cricket and football across North East competitions. Notably, he played a season with the Swans in 1979, securing a Premiership alongside captain Michael Richards.

Fuelled by his deep connection to the Pyengana community and a keen understanding of the positive impact sport and the recreation ground had on locals, Michael spearheaded the revival of the neglected Pyengana Football oval. His vision was simple yet profound—bring footy back to Pyengana. Rallying a dedicated group of locals, Michael led years of hard work to restore the oval. With the support of then-president Michael Richards, the first annual heritage game at Pyengana was organised. In 2016, donning the Pyengana jumper, the club triumphed over NEFU rivals Winnaleah. A decade later, this match has become the highlight and biggest fundraiser of our season.

Persuaded by Dooly’s persistence, Michael joined the club committee in 2017, with Carol and daughter Hannah wholeheartedly joining him. As a family, they have set a remarkable standard for volunteerism and generosity, making an enormous impact on our club. We extend heartfelt thanks to Carol and Hannah, whose support of Michael has been a significant blessing for us all.

Michael’s boundless enthusiasm brought to life many of the club’s signature fundraising events, including the weekly wood raffles, the Christmas raffle, and the annual Monster Auction. His energy and commitment have embedded these traditions into the fabric of our club, helping secure our financial stability and ongoing success.

In addition, Michael coordinated our gate roster for several years and was instrumental in promoting the 200 Club, recruiting nearly a score of LeFevres—if you bore the name, you were in!

Michael’s dedication was further recognised in 2023 when he received the NTFA Clarie Boon Memorial Award for his outstanding volunteer contribution to the NTFA community.

Humble by nature, Michael prefers to work behind the scenes, never seeking recognition for his efforts. Tonight, however, we shine the spotlight on Michael, Carol, and Hannah as a gesture of our immense gratitude for everything they have done for the club.

Michael, please come forward, accompanied by Michael Richards—the one who persistently encouraged you to join the committee—to receive your Life Membership badge. This honour is a small token of our appreciation for your unwavering commitment, vision, and generosity. Congratulations and thank you.
